History
Yesterday was the first day back to the gym. I swam for 30 minutes - okay walked laps - but today the ankle is very sore. Not good. Called the nurse and left a voice mail, waiting for a call back. Other than still a bad ankle, not much is going on. Thanks for the warm thoughts. Hopefully I’ll be better soon.
Roxie, my dad is one of those souls who was born about 150 years too late. He'd be happy out hunting bear with his musket rifle. Every summer they go Rendezvous. They compete in the shooting, tomahawk throwing, and other events. They have a trader's tent they set up and sell all sorts of things. Jams, jewelry, signs, hats, gloves and anything else they (or I) feel like making. They don't have a web site - chiefly because I'd rather knit than design and maintain a site - selfish I know - but easier on me.
On the plus side, I know how to shoot a gun – came in handy during summer camp shooting events when I was a teen – start fires without matches, and other outdoor types of activities. Which I’ve moved to the big city and don’t use in the least.

Update
Thursday, Perky and I went to the LYS and knitted for about an hour. We got home and Grilltech was out prepping the grill for dinner. The house smelled of wonderful brisket. Odd, because we were going to have fish for dinner. I stepped out onto the back step. Next thing I know, my left ankle is twisted and I'm falling. I hit the back of my head on the table - thankfully it's plastic. With help I'm able to get up and ice my ankle. I request the gate is taken down so I can hobble to the bedroom.
Friday wasn't any better. I found I could put some weight on my left foot if it's at a slight angle. By 0900, I'm in so much pain, I leave early. I get a new brace because - as it turns out - I gave the one I had to the Eldest. More ice and ibuprofen. The entire weekend was pretty much sitting in Grilltech's chair, ice on my left ankle part of the time and a brace the rest of the time. Since
concentration wasn't my strong suit, I worked on another bag. Big and pretty much mindless. I was able to get one completed. And because if I'm seriously going to be using these bags, I need more than one; I've started another. The trellis lace pattern is way to mindless, so I'm going through the book of patterns and finding a lace pattern that can be about 32 stitches wide. I've had to tweak both of them, but the bags are turning out lovely.
Today, I'm still a bit short tempered and sore. It doesn't help that the power has gone out here. Stupid generators. I guess they have enough gas to last for days. Ick. Grilltech thinks it's the first strike from the zombies. An hour and a half later the power is back on. It's hot in here still.
Red talks about Dollhouse; but I've never heard of it. Anyone else have any comments on it?

Half
The day is half over, which makes me happy. The week is half over, which makes me even happier. I'm way more than half way done with the hat, which makes me the happiest. Should have it completed by the end of the day.
A friend is sitting next to me, I'd forgotten how much of a chatter he is. Yes, I did say he.
The hat is now finished and I still have three and a half hours to go in my day. I'd better get up and walk around otherwise I might fall down sleeping.
Tonight's dinner is leftover (half) chicken soup. Turns out I grabbed the beef stock; not chicken. It’s still very tasty.

Day Over
Today, I didn't bring DPNS, so the hat is on hold. The 16 inch circulars are getting to be way too big to knit comfortably with. So I'm having to work. I believe that's code for reading blogs while waiting for the hour glass to go away.
More bad news, my favorite bracelet was lost while visiting yard sales on Saturday. My only hope is who ever finds it will love it as much as I did. The up side, I'll be able to replace it soon as I make a trip to the bead store. I'm going to get the mega hold magnets, so the next one won't be able to decide it should live with someone else and jump off my wrist.
Grilltech isn't happy about having to purchase new tires for the car RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT. We both knew the car needed new tires, but we was hoping to push it off for another month or two. Yesterday's flat did us in. So, thankfully we had a small amount set aside for the trip. I'm grateful we had that much to begin with.
I must have had a touch of food poisoning last night. I was in the bathroom about every ten minutes. I could have easily called in sick today, but I didn't. Today I'm more on the tired side. I tend to say that a lot don’t I?
Remember there is still time to enter the contest.

Yip, its a Monday
Education at its finest. Not that I have any interest in knitting a purse. I've got an awesome knitting bag/purse.
I'm having such a hard time staying awake today. There really isn't any valid reason for me to be so tired. We went to bed at a reasonable time. 2000. I fell asleep pretty much right away. I was however, waking up every couple of hours. People talking, husband tossing, and cats all contributed to a poor night's sleep. Do you really think people would notice if I put my head down and snagged 40 winks.
I lost ten bucks while playing Texas Hold'em. Usually I'm a better, but glare helped me loose - that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I worked on the voyager hat while playing, because it kept me busy. When I was large blind I wouldn't even bother to look at hand. No point, I was already in.
The stripper gloves are completed. They'll be dropped in the mail today. So they can be sold, along with the voyager hat my parents picked up earlier. I needed about another hour to finish the trim on the gloves.
At 1030 I decided I should check my lottery ticket. Nope, didn't win. Guess it's a good thing I came to work today. Earlier this morning I was freezing, Now I'm sweltering. Ick. It makes the wool sticky to knit with. I should pull out my little fan to cool off, it will make things bearable. Does this mean I'm starting to reach menopause? Heaven help Grilltech.
Grilltech looked for Ladyhawke to put in for me on Sunday, but he couldn't find it. Do you think Sam and Dean would investigate missing movies? Even if I figure they've fallen into the void?
When we walked out of work today, I noticed the car was leaning to the left. Crappy, the driver's side front tire is flat. Without to much swearing, Grilltech was able to put on the spare tire. Only to find out it also was flat. A quick call to the kids, didn't do us any good. They didn't answer their phones. I called the Bride, she had enough time to come bail us out. I talked her into coffee and left Griltech to deal with the tires and drive home.
I'm so happy this day is over. Tuesday will be better right?

Friday Edition
I've almost finished the first pair of stripper gloves. They still need to have trim put on them.
I've got a strong urge to cast on something else. I haven't quite decided if I want the peacock shawl - which most of you know I've been lusting after forever - or this little lace cardi. Because I can't make up my mind, I haven't done anything. However, I have been working on the vest trying to get it completed. So honestly, I can move on.
The temporal displacement is getting worse. Yesterday I decided it was Friday. Today I decided it was Wednesday. Wednesday. Ugh.
I finished the maze socks. I think the maze pattern turned out rather well!
GRRR I can't believe how much of a difference the needles made. There's a quarter of an inch difference. That's HUGE! I have two options: a) knit two more socks (one on each different needle to make complete sets) or b) live with it. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what I'm going to do.
I've got the Lady Hawke sound track in my player, every time a song plays I have a strong desire to watch the movie. I may throw it in this weekend to get my fix. It won't be tonight, because I'll be playing poker with the boys.
With this post, I have 582 posts. Using my vast superpowers (this is where algebra saves the world) I figure sometime in the second week of August I'll reach 600. The contest? Figure out the exact day I reach my 600th post. I'll put together a goodie bag* for the winner. Leave your guess on this post in order to win.
One of the supervisors is walking around saying hey, nice shoes. Keep it up.
* Heather if you win, I'll make you a pair of socks instead of forcing you to fish.

List Day!
- We passed eight officers this morning, plus there was something happening on the freeway
- The bar's name is Club Sassy's and 3 cars were there this morning
- Friends who routinely drive by bars have started counting the cars in that lot
- I find it quite funny
- I have about 20 more posts until the BIG 600
- Somehow I've managed to lose my badge between the house and work
- The funniest thing about the whole situation? This morning on the drive in AM Coast to Coast the guest was talking about... luck
- I went home and looked but I couldn't find my badge
- There is only one room I didn't look in and that was the kitchen
- I sent Perky a page asking her to look for it when she gets up
- Okay, dumbass (me) I can't find those type of people in that campaign
- Nice, an e-mail stating can't wear athletic shoes or flip flops to work and shorts are no longer acceptable
- This day is getting better and better
- Did I mention I saw Friday the 13th? The one with Jarad Padalecki. Yea it sucked also
- I did manage to work on the vest last night, four more rows!
- Instead of coming back to work, maybe I should have stayed home
- I get completely and I do mean COMPLETELY different gauge on the 12 inch circulars in the round and 32 inch circulars using magic loop
- First time, I thought it was a mistake on my part - wrong number of stitches or something equally stupid
- I mean it wouldn't have been the first time I've done something idiotic when it comes to knitting
- Turns out it was gauge! I guess the simplest explanations really are the best
- I really should put on head phones and quit communicating with people
- Billy Idol makes everything better
- Reminder: bring dental floss - I used the last of it this morning
- The only thing that will make this day better, the forced domain switch of my main working computer
- The switch would put me out of commission for two-three hours AND I'd have to be here clicking on stuff instead of working
- I guess it wouldn’t be all bad, I could knit through it
- Okay, the sock is going back into the bag and the striper glove is coming out
- Well that was phrased poorly
- Perfect, the next song on the player? Cheap Trick's I Want You to Want Me
- Let's see: I want you (I want you to want me), you're hot (I believe in Miracles), you cheating whore (Take a Letter, Maria); am I reading too much into these songs?
- I have half a day to go and for whatever reason I have decided it's now Friday
- It's amazing how no one believes you when say hypothetically what would happen if...
- OMG OMG OMG and it's not yummy, yummy hot guys
- Shocking I know
- I'm thinking it's close to being nap time, I know Grilltech would agree with me
- We're celebrating the death of PET, I used the brownie incentive to make it die direct quote from PL
- Me: Uhhh what's PET? Her: Exactly!
- Guess what I found in the car? Yip, my badges
- Maybe I am lucky
- Oh wait, the
damnbird is still screaming - Yea, gauge...
- I think I'm going to call it a night guys
- Be safe out there
Ramblings
Every June I go to the doctor. (Happy birthday to me.) Every year I hear the same thing: lose weight and exercise more. This year? Same thing plus - ready for this? - you're low on vitamin D. Seriously vitamin D? It comes from the being out in the sun.
Oh wait, that's right, I don't do the sun. I burn so fast and easily that going out into the sun is dangerous. If I wear sun block, it negates the reason for going into the sun in the first place. You should have seen me on the 4th. I stayed in the shade. If I had to walk into the house, I'd slink from shady spot to shady spot. Maybe less than 15-20 minutes of direct sunlight. Yip, slight pinking of the shoulders.
So, I'm taking a prescription - seriously? - strength vitamin D for eight weeks. Any suggestions from you guys to improve my vitamin D in take? Yea, I don't drink milk either. Okay I drink chocolate milk.
In knitting news, it's way too hot to work on the vest. The wool/bamboo/silk blend is sticky. And hot. I'm thinking about bringing it to work because it's way cooler here and it is a simple knit. I'll need to think about it.
I picked up new shoes. I'm now able to sneak up on people. The killings can begin again!! Not really sure I like the new shoes. I may end up giving them to one of the girls and getting a different pair.
Speaking of doctor, I'm on some new medication and I must say it's working. It seems to be the time of year when most everyone is crabby. Work stress, the heat, and other factors are making people crazy. Even me. Before I'd be snappy and not care. Now I realize what I'm doing andalmost care in the few nano seconds I can adjust my reaction. It also helps to know everyone is feeling the same way. What's the word? Empathy? Apathy? Whatever. Does this mean my list day posts will be any different? Probably not.
It smells like rain in here. I really hope not, I left the back car window down. Although in this heat it should be dry but the time we get out there. The other day, I was freezing in here. Today it's a frakkin' sauna. I know, I know, new rope. It did rain and I was right it did dry out by the time we left.

Secret Pal 14
1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? Wool blends are good. I don't care for knitting with acrylics, but they are required for babies and some muggles.
2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? I have a large plastic case, which used to be my knitting bag.
3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I'd say more of a fearless knitter than advanced. I'm always open to learn new things and try something. First time maybe ugly, but the second or third time is very refined. I took up knitting about 1999/2000; I needed something to keep myself busy.
4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? No, don't really shop on Amazon.
5. What's your favorite scent? Lavender/vanilla
6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy? Chocolate almond is the best.
7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I make simple beaded necklaces and bracelets. I know how to spin, but would rather knit.
8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) My musical tastes vary, I do use my computer as a non-portable MP3 player. I like Enya, Foreigner, Disturbed, Offspring, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Alan Parsons.
9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand? I love purples and blues. Can't really say I hate bright orange.
10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? Married 19 years this year. Two grown daughters and one granddaughter. We have four cats.
11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos? Scarves and mittens yes. Hats and ponchos no.
12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? Socks! (Because they are portable.)
13. What are you knitting right now? I always have socks on the needles. Currently working on a vest for Grilltech. I'm thinking about working on the peacock shawl for me.
14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts? Yes!
15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic? I mostly use circular's (Addi's) or Bamboo DPNS.
16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? Yes to both
17. How old is your oldest UFO? I've got an afghan that's been in time out for about six years now
