List Day

  • Gas is holding at $2.48 per gallon

  • I've had anxiety dreams for the past two (three?) nights
  • I'm working from home tomorrow while we get a new water heater

  • Stop coming over and trying to justify your actions to me, I don't care. A replacement is being worked on. Let it go

  • The day is almost over

Fun and Games

Yesterday we get home and walk thru the utility room; and hear a hissing noise. The same noise we heard when we left in the morning - the one I thought was the water heater doing it's job. Turns out it wasn't. One of the flex hoses had sprung a leak and had been spraying water all day. At this point, Grilltech is trying to get the water to stop spraying, while I'm on the phone trying to get a plumber.

Then it's a waiting game, because Grilltech has an hour before he leaves for work. Half an hour later, I get a phone call that a tech is on the way. Ten minutes before Grilltech has to leave he shows up. We're still having water spray because there appears to be a back fill on the water heater. The tech turns off the water at the main which makes it nice. Tells me how much the fix will be, then because the water had been going all day, it is possible the pilot light will go out. Ouch.

He gets me a quote to replace, because honestly with our luck, it will go out. I apply for their 12 months same as cash option, and luckily I get it. So Friday I'm getting a new water heater. Because the old one was out of code and it's a good idea to replace it.

Why is it when we get some money saved up, something comes along and wipes it out all out. So much for my cruise in two years.

Ouch

Yesterday I hung out in the car with the window down for an hour waiting on Grilltech. I was wearing a short sleeved shirt and it was a warm day. Today, I looked in the mirror and my arm is sun burnt. Hello summer.

Weekend Recap

Happy Solstice. The drive in was lovely this morning. The moon was full and silvery in the western sky. The last time this happened was 1967 (or was it 69?).

The Perky and Kommadant got a pool for the backyard. Baby Bird came over on Sunday and had to swim. It was cold. I'm thinking it might be July before it's warm enough for me to swim in.

I got a new car. It's a Nissan and gets much better mileage then the other car. Plus filling the tank is a lot cheaper.

I've finished a pair of socks for me. I'll get pictures up soon.

Cthulhu Fhtagn

Ouch

I've been doing Zombies Run. Sadly, it's during the hottest part of the day. Today, I got finished and looked in the mirror. I'm sun burnt. Grilltech and Perky just shake their heads and ask, did you wear sunscreen?

Update

I've spent the last week in San Diego. All in all, it wasn't a bad stay. I worked from 0800 to 1600 - 1630, so I didn't have time to do much of anything exciting. I was down town, so I was right next to the coast. I walked down to the shipyard and took a couple of pictures for Grilltech. He really liked them, if I was at home, I'd post a couple.

Today I drove up to Ventura, that was a nightmare. The freeway is suppose to go, but there was places we stopped for a while. Google maps said three hours, it took five. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to do laundry tonight or wait until tomorrow. Not sure I want to commit to two hours of waiting around. Sure it's prime knitting time, but still.

Tomorrow I'm going to kick around. Drive to the base and see if I can find the place I'm looking for. There is a yarn store I want to stop by. And laundry. I'll be partying like a queen.

List Day

  • Gas is at $1.98 $2.05 $2.09 per gallon
  • There was two cars at the coffee shop this morning
  • I'm back to work after three days of jury duty
  • I keep unlatching my earring, I might lose one at this rate
  • Three hours of my day left, I'm ready to head home early
  • I'm going to be traveling for three weeks starting on the 17th
  • My flight and hotel is booked, just need to figure out where I'm reporting to, but they're not telling me
  • I have a water district meeting tonight, not sure what to expect
  • After throwing a fit (okay, asking nicely) I finally got an address to report to
  • The day is over

Friday

Taxes are down done, owed the feds and the state owed us. I guess it worked out in the end. It only took an hour and two glasses of cider.

Grilltech took me on vacation to Florida. While there, he was sweet enough to take me to a yarn store. This is the yarn I picked up to celebrate the trip.

These are Grilltech's vacation socks. I started them on the 16th and finished them on the 22nd. There are lots of Facebook posts of the sock doing fun things. And not so fun things like waiting at the airport.

There are my socks that I finished before the trip.

The sweater on the needles again

I picked up and added a new border on the bottom again.

Turns out he leans back in his chair at work and it catches on something and snags it. I don't notice the tear and throw it into the laundry where it unravels. Maybe its time for another sweater

Crack

Yesterday, my order of Girl Scout Cookies came in. I've already eaten a tube of them. I'm sure I can eat the rest within a week.

Grilltech has managed fray his sweater, so I'm working on fixing it again. Ripping back the bottom, so I can re-knit it.

I've got about six inches of the Captain America sweater done. I'm making the Eldest untwist the yarn. Figure it's her sweater, she can help.

List Day

  • Gas is at $1.89 per gallon

We won our last game of Pandemic Legacy. We had to nuke Chicago to do it, but sacrifices had to be made. It was down the wire and the decision was made to prevent an outbreak. Below is a picture of the board when we finished.

Only two months left. I'm thinking we might fail this game. Grilltech says we'll pull it off. Only time will tell.

Karma

Last night, I was so happy. I had finished the tunic. I even started seaming it. Arms done. Start pinning the sides to make sure it's even. What do I find?

Drive By

Today is my dad's birthday. I'm not sure how old he is but I think he's 79. Does that make me a bad daughter? Tonight the girls and I will be meeting up with him for a dinner. I know he would like a blue vest, but I don't have time to knit him one by tonight. Plus I'm at work right now, so they'd frown at me knitting instead of working. They're funny like that.

While at knitting on Saturday I didn't think to bring a tape measure, so I grabbed Perky's phone and used it. Turns out her phone is six and half inches long - including the case. Now I can start knitting the instep.

List Day

  • Gas is at $1.98 per gallon
  • Ruby has a vet visit today
  • I hate bureaucracy
  • Grilltech is being mean to me
  • Odd, Excel just shut down on me
  • Over heard from the other bay, Monday is clothing optional
  • The day is half over, hopefully the second half will be as fast as the first half
  • Bleh training. I wish I had my knitting with me
  • Seriously.... get a set of headphones, they're cheap. Oh wait, so are you
  • I warned them this was going to happen, now they're screaming we need more bodies

Change

Today, I moved my desk. It took me about an hour and half to do. The move itself was only 30 minutes, but getting the system set up and running right. Still working on it. The biggest change? The main system I use is on the left side. I don't know how I did it, but I can't get the main chat window to open. Plus the new system is slow. I don't mean, slow, but SLOW. Thankfully I only rarely use that one.

Anyway, I've now got a cubemate. It's someone I've sat with before, so its not a big deal. I'll need to remember to keep the talking to myself down to a minimum. Okay, second time today I've walked past my new row. Change is good. I keep telling myself that, but so far, it's not taking. On the plus side, my new cubemate won't be helping himself to a bunch of my stuff.

I've got about an inch, maybe an inch and a half done on Grilltech's new sock. The blue isn't really standing out, so all I see is black on them.

First sock finished, it's for me.

Last year, I made a friend a pair of socks. A couple of weeks ago, he handed them back with an issue. I need to simply kitchener it closed, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Simply being lazy.

  • We're having ribs for dinner tonight.... yum!

Quick and Dirty

With the New Year coming I'm trying to come up with some solid goals. Let's face it, losing weight isn't something I'm overly interested in. I'm sure my doctor would love it if I did. I think three days at the gym is do able. Along with finishing my tunic. I'm coming up on two years of working on that bad boy, so it needs to get it done. Other then those, I've got nothing. Not sure if it's apathy on my part or a high level of comfort on my part.

I would show you pictures of knitting, but I don't have any real progress to show you. So, if I don't see you before Friday, have a good New Year.

Round Up

I had a good Christmas. Got some lovely Doctor Who loot. Not sure if I'm going to bring it into work or not. I tend to leave things in it's package, so it won't lose it's value. Grilltech also got me a three month sock yarn subscription. I'm really looking forward to yarn coming in.

I have a tooth that is going to need a root canal. I'm holding off going to the dentist because my medical account is empty and the first of the year is coming up. So I'm gobbling up ibuprofen and chewing on one side until I can make the appointment.

The winter solstice has come and gone. Why aren't the days longer already? It still feels like winter here.

Going the Distance

Last night, I worked on the tunic. I think I must have gotten about ten rows completed maybe more. Then I did a rough measure to see how far I still need to go. It was depressing, I have about five inches - give or take. Did I make any progress on that thing at all? (This thing is going to take forever to complete.)

I haven't started my mittens yet. I want to get this tunic done before I start another around the house project. I can't see dragging them around like a sock, even if they are made from sock yarn. Two colors and a pattern will be too much to haul around. Hey I guess this means I can start a sock also. Wait, that would increase the number of projects I have on the needles. Oh well, I like to live on the edge.

I think we're all done for Christmas. Okay, still need to pick up a few things at the store, but overall, we're done. Okay, I'm still waiting for packages to show up, then really I'm done. Okay, I'll be done once the present are wrapped. Then I'll be done Am I in denial? I'm not sure.

Down the street on a rainy fall day.

My mitten project. Baby Bird was nice enough to wind the yarn for me.

Finished Grilltech's socks. Not sure how long they took me, but longer than usual. They're showing a brighter red, than they actually are.

I finished this project ages ago. This year, I finally got around to blocking it and having Perky sew the buttons on. I found it too fiddly, so it's going to Perky's MIL as a Christmas present.

For those of you playing Pandemic Legacy you may not want to read any further.

We had our asses handed to us this game. It was the outbreaks that did us in. This game I started by putting up road blocks, but didn't have time to go kill zombies. And the faded crept deeper into the Americas. However, we did manage to find the scientist we was looking for, so hopefully that will help us out in the future. Since we lost we get two more funded events, which will help quite a bit.

Coffee Run

Getting ready for Star Wars in two weeks.

Rainy Days

This morning we woke to rain. I'm really grateful it was just rain, because this time of year it could have easily been snow. For the past two days, I've been wearing my finger-less mitts and ice queen to work. I really love them, but the mitts aren't quite warm enough.

So with the idea of making myself some mittens, I was thinking of using quiviut to make them. Yea, talk about crazy. So tonight we're (okay I'm) to the yarn store to see what they have on hand. I'm thinking a black main color with a sky blue accent. If the LYS doesn't have it, then I'll be ordering from knit picks, but I'd rather buy it locally.

List Day

  • Gas is at $2.02 per gallon, we paid less than two dollars the other day
  • I'm thinking of making myself a pair of mittens because it's so cold, now I have a reason to buy yarn. Will need to check the patterns to find one I like
  • I hate this time of year, my hair is all staticy. Please Plus you know, no good natural light
  • Oops, today isn't Friday
  • 15 minutes left in my day, have a good night

Strange

I'm thinking of joining a sock club. The biggest problem I have is, I'm not sure I'll like the colors. Then I'll be wasting money on something I'll not get around to using. Plus, I'm not sure I want to spend money on me this time of the year. I know, I know. It would be okay if I did. The world won't end. I'll just leave the link and think about it.

I've finished the instep on the socks I'm working on. Just need to get the foot and toe done, then I'll be back to one at a time. I should have brought them with me today, because I'll be waiting at the doctor's office. I opted for a book instead. Maybe these socks will be done in time for Christmas. Maybe.

Strange dreams this morning. I broke a tooth and it was over 700 to fix - thankfully just a dream. Another part I was at some kind of party with friends and co-workers, there was lots of drinking and dancing (on my part). Everyone else was kinda blah about it all.

Since we had four days off, we got in four games of Pandemic. We won two, barely and lost two, stupid outbreaks. I grabbed a picture of the board at the end of the game for June. (We won, but at a price.) The Faded (zombies) have made it to the Americas. I'm playing the Colonel, and I'm setting up road blocks to keep them from leaving their region, but a few made it through. (Red is our incurable disease and it's set up on the Pacific rim.) We've managed to sunset blue a couple of times, so it's now super easy to cure. Now if we could do the same for black it would help our cause.

July has added a new twist, we need to hunt for a person in the quarantine zone. I hope we can do it.

Do Over?

Today is a day. Last night, I locked my digital badge by typing in the wrong pin number once. When I got to work today, my encryption was locked due to that badge being locked. I had to go to another system and figure out that process to get it unlocked. 48 digits and twenty minutes later, I'm able to log onto my computer.

The guy who does the morning stuff is out today and tomorrow, so I'm doing it. I'm to the point that if I don't understand the name, I just forward it to the supervisor and say who is this because honestly? Life is too short. I'm trying very hard to not let the annoyances of the day affect me, but I'm afraid it might be creeping it's way in. Great, now I have to reboot. This too shall pass Guess, I'm not quite living up to the don't be annoyed because I was just rude to a guy. Damn. And another reboot. (Breathe) I can do this.

The day is over, guess I lived. Time to go home and relax.

List Day

  • Gas is at $2.12 per gallon, the price has been holding steady for the past couple of weeks
  • Grillech's side of the electric blanket is dead, guess I'll be getting a new one this weekend

  • It's been a gray kind of day
  • I'm trying to work on a project in Visual Basic and it's not working
  • Have a good evening

Look, a Post

Today is the second day in a row, we've woken up to snow. Thankfully, it hasn't (or won't) stay around much, unless it's in the shade all day. The skiers are all excited that the mountain might be opening soon(TM), but me? Not so much. I'm not ready for this winter thing. It's too cold and dark.

Yesterday was Ruby's one year check up. At the house, she's too busy running around being a hyper kitten. At the doctor's office, she was all sorts of Mommy, I don't like it here.

Knitting has been going slow. I've been working on the two socks at a time, which I feel is a complete time suck. So I need to buckle down and finish them. I've got eight inches to go on my tunic and it will be done. But I'm not working on it either. I don't want to start anything new because that would just add to the knitting pile, that I'm not working on. So my mojo will come back and I'll be happy and knitting again. Just need to wait it out.
