Amber Tuesday

Today at 0530, the eastern sky was still very dark. Orion was sitting close to the horizon, so the group of stars I thought was the Pleiades, was. I guess fall is on its way here, but too bad the heat hasn't gotten the memo yet. Today is suppose to be about 104. It's too hot to do karate, yes, I know I could do it in the house where it's cool but I'm not.

On Saturday, us girls went to see Snow White and the Huntsman. I have a serious problem with movies that show the heroine being locked in a tower most of her life suddenly picking up a sword and knowing how to fight with it. Plus my serious loathing of magpies... I did like Chris Hemsworth, he was handsome and breath taking. And Charlize Theron? There are no words to express my admiration of her skills.

On Sunday, I made banana bread. Instead of using regular milk, I changed things up and used chocolate. The bread is quite good, but not as chocolaty as I wanted. The next time, I'll add a couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder to see how that turns out.

Last night we finished watching V second season and wow! I love how they worked some of the original actors into the story line. I'm bummed it didn't make it another season. Of course, I'm watching all my shows on DVD or Netflix. Hmm I went to see if I could find the fist season on Amazon, and they want 25 bucks for it! I only paid 10 for the second.

List Day

  • Counted four cars at the bar this morning
  • I don't know what was up with traffic this morning, but going downtown was heavier than usual
  • When the pattern comes out, I so hafta knit me some of these
  • The night is getting a bit longer; Venus and Jupiter are bright jewels in the eastern sky
  • I think I can make out Pleiades slightly above Jupiter, but I'm not sure. They're not as bright yet
  • I've traded a hat (soon to be made) for a draw plate
  • Now I've got to get some wire and I'll be off and running
  • It's Forecast Outlook not Calibration Week, I think it's time to go home
  • Gnome stopped by and suggest I look at Rio Grande for supplies
  • And because it would be kewl... Titanium wire
  • Seriously? You put in the vacation request on Monday and you're already bitching it's not been handled?
  • I'm all over the place today, still have about three spreadsheets open that I haven't finished working on
  • Oops, updated my numbers and now I’m about 50K short. Now I hafta talk to the Gnome to see how he wants it handled

  • I'm needing to let go of some frustration issues I have with a friend of mine
  • Grilltech is starting a load of laundry, man is he sexy right now...

Happy...

Tuesday?

Figure I'd better get a post in before the end of the month. Today is my last day. So, I'd better get on it.

It's been hot. So knitting has been very hit or miss. Even the three strands of cotton become tacky with sweat after a while. Even knitting socks at work under the air conditioner is hard.

I think I'd like to do some Viking knitting

because I need to know how to finish

List Day

  • Counted eight cars at the bar this afternoon
  • I'm working swings this week, so it's a totally different feel to work
  • Today is my Friday!
  • Yes, I wore the shirt twice. It looks like a broken string
  • Hate walking to the car late at night, I'm worried Big Foot might jump out and grab me
  • However, I do love how quiet it gets about 1700
  • I don't know about anyone else, but I get a kick out of watching Ravelry's Radar
  • Someone has a bird chirping as his text notification

Down this street in the morning:

Instead of working on dishcloths, I've been making bathmats.

Another bathmat in process.

Another pair of clogs, waiting to be felted.

I swear, this shirt is cursed. I don't know how I'm going to fix that hole. Any suggestions?

GoJira looking around out front.

The Big Red One

Really? REALLY?! If I was in my twenties, I'd so be taking a shot at a trip to Mars. Maybe if I start getting in shape now, they'd take an older, wiser person.

List Day

I'm not a French Templar so Friday the 13th doesn't really bother me. However, when the universe starts on the smack down, it might be a good idea to lay low. Why?
  • I could. Not. Sleep. Last. Night.
  • I shut the alarm off, good thing Grilltech woke up at 0450, otherwise we'd still be in bed
  • Checked my email at work first thing, the skilling script is broken
  • I left my iPad AND knitting at home, so I don't have anything to do during lunch today
  • I've got a song rattling around in my head
  • Our lackey isn't working out and will be returning to her own area
  • The batteries on my fan are DOA
  • Asked a supervisor about having an agent work with us, turns out that agent had been termed last month and I was asking the wrong supervisor about someone else
  • When running reports, it's a good idea to change the date, otherwise the four I just ran would be useless
  • Yes, I've got to run those four reports again
  • I couldn't get HG to go punch Gnome in the head, and I really did try.... repeatedly
  • The store was crowded and had stupid people shopping in them
  • I'm going to bed early tonight

Grilltech is getting ready to go compete in the Idaho Ribfest. He's packing up, running around like a chicken. I find it best to stay out of his way.

Good luck, Honey!! I know you'll do fine!

Waiting

I've seen and/or read enough science fiction to know visits to the doctor's office is a piece of cake. Use the loo, they run a scanner over me, and in less than 10 minutes anything and everything that is wrong is diagnosed and fixed with an injection of nanobots. I'm driving home in my flying car in 30 minutes - 60 tops.

Sadly, the reality of the doctor's visit is vastly different. The waiting in the doctor's office, the needle pricks for blood draws, the undressing, other nasty tests, and then the real waiting begins. If I'm lucky - and I was - the tests come back negative. Now it's just waiting for time to pass until the next round of doctor's visit come up.

I've finished the sleeves on my top, put the body stitches on a spare needle, and tried it on. The sleeves aren't quite long enough. I'll also need several more inches on the body. Guess what? Yip, almost out of yarn.

I'm unable to find anymore of Deauville (by Lang) yarn, so I'm thinking of getting a couple of balls of another linen blend to help make it longer. I've used my Googlefu (and Ravelryfu) to see what I could find, apparently me and other woman (in Switzerland) are the only two people on the face of the planet who have bought this brand of yarn.

List Day

  • I counted seven cars at the bar this morning
  • Waiting to hear back some test results, which is making me very anxious
  • My tunic/sweater/top/shirt is called buttercup (rav). I've got 2.25 skeins to go, and I'm bored with it
  • Might take the weekend off and knit another pair of clogs - just to finish something
  • I've spent half the day crying at my desk.... stupid PMS
  • course the crying has nothing to do with some of the news stories I've read
  • New movie trailer to watch Dredd
  • The OLYMPIC letter is causing all sorts of heartaches
  • It's muggy out there

List Day

  • There were two cars at the bar this morning
  • Jury duty is done. We found him guilty of raping and battering his cellmate
  • Yes, you read that right
  • Today is a crappy Monday. I've got a ton of catch up to do
  • Swimming with C on Saturday at 0700
  • Knitting with Nightowl on Saturday at 1500
  • Looks like Saturday will be busy
  • When my phone rings, everyone laughs
  • Grilltech has a doctor's appointment today, so I'm leaving early
  • Time to get the soup started, then it will be karate time

I'm a Dumbass...

I had jury duty again this week. I had to show up this time, which meant I had to be there at 0800. I took out Grilltech's socks because we're not suppose to have any knitting needles or crochet hooks at the court house. I dug out some wood DPNS and cotton yarn, put them into my bag because I'm not one to not have any knitting around.

I'm standing in line with my purse in the plastic bin. It goes through the X-ray machine while I walk through the metal detector, which goes off on me. I had to stand with my arm spread while the guard wands me. Mean while, my purse is sent through three times. I get sent over and the guard asks me to pull out my keys. I hand them to him, and the purse goes through again. He shakes his head tells me, there is something else in my purse. So I start digging and pull out a small knife. Fuck! I'm such a dumbass. He looks at me, gives me a lecture about not bringing weapons to the court house and since I was a juror he would be nice and hold it for me.

He then asks if I have any crochet hooks for the yarn in my purse. I look him straight in the eye and tell him, honestly Nope, no crochet hooks. He didn't notice the wood needles and I wasn't going to point them out.

Yip, I'm a lying dumbass but it was worth it.
